The Caprese salad dates back to post-World War I Italy. It’s said that a patriotic mason wanted to make a dish as a tribute to Italy that reflected visually the tricolour in its presentation!
Insalata Caprese, like many other Italian dishes, is simple and easy to prepare making it extremely popular.
To make your own Caprese salad, follow these steps:
- Slice a large ball of fresh Mozzarella from our market into delicious chunks
- Cut slices of bright red ripe (firm but not too firm to cut!) – we have some great ones from Natoora in our market
- Add a small amount of juice from the tomatoes and drizzle with olive oil
- Sprinkle fresh basil leaves, broken by hand over your dish to finish – enjoy, amici!
